Recycling or donating outdated devices

September is a great time to start fall cleaning. Clean out that closet or corner of a back room where all your old computers and phones and other electronics live.

Before recycling or donating:

  • Remember to delete your user account on your old computer or remove the hard drive before giving it away.
  • Smart phones should also be reset to remove your old data.

She’s Wired can help.  We pick up old equipment for free from our clients, especially when replacing the old with brand new models.

There are plenty of places to donate or recycle your electronics.

Goodwill:  If your computer, monitor or printer are still in working condition, donate to Goodwill, which has a training program and fixes electronics. Find the closest donation center: Goodwill Donation Centers.

CHaRM: The Center for Hard to Recycle Materials is a permanent drop-off facility south of Grant Park.  They accept everything from hazardous waste to leftover paint to old CDs and DVDs. After removing the hard drives, we take old desktop computers and laptops, speakers, cordless phones, audio equipment and tangles of wires here. Open 9am-4pm Tuesdays & Thursdays and 8am-4pm Saturdays.

Keep Atlanta Beautiful:  This groups hosts two recycling centers each month in Buckhead and Kirkwood/Edgewood.  Most items are free to drop off. They accept electronics, although there are fees for TVs.

Decatur is holding an Autumn Electronics Recycling Day from 9am-1pm Saturday, Oct. 7 at the Decatur Public Works, 2635 Talley St.

And Best Buy, Staples, Home Depot, Lowes, and Office Depot also offer recycling options.
