Say Hello to Windows 11 / Apple iOS Features
Windows 11 Update Coming Early 2022
Windows 11 was announced last week. But it’s not going to upgrade on your PC until sometime in early 2022 so you have time to breathe and get to know about all the new features and design changes.
The biggest change? The Start icon and Menu — which opens up when you click on the little Windows icon located in the lower left corner of your PC screen — is moving about six inches over to the right. It will be located in the bottom middle of your screen.
You’ll also notice that the apps are no longer in one long column to scroll through. You will be able to pin apps for easy access when you click on the new Windows icon (now in the bottom middle of your screen). Note the All Apps button located to the right of Pinned will allow you to get to all your apps if you don’t see the one you want.
You’ll continue to see the Start icon that allows you to Shut Down and Restart your computer.
Take note that the search bar is moving to the bottom middle of your screen, too.
Apple iOS 15 Update Has Major Features
Coming in Fall 2021 is a feature-rich update to the Apple iOS (mobile software).
The update opens an important door between Apple and Android users, offering the ability to FaceTime. Yes, you heard me. Apple users will be able to FaceTime with Android friends and family (This includes FaceTiming using a Web Browser and other Windows devices). The new feature, called Share Play, will enable you to share a video, music, TikToks, etc., with your friends and family on FaceTime. Apple is trying to get back some of the marketshare that Zoom picked up during the pandemic in 2020. Making it possible to work across Apple and Android devices may bring many back to using the FaceTime video service.
One of the more interesting new features — called Live Text — will allow you to open a photo with text on it, highlight the text or handwriting and paste it into another app, like Notes. There will also be updates to the Maps app as well as a redesigned Weather app. And Apple continues to introduce privacy controls to allow you to decide who can see your data.
