Having trouble with BellSouth or AT&T email?

We have had a spate of calls recently concerning BellSouth or AT&T email accounts not working. When we notice problems that appear to affect multiple clients, we know the source is often beyond your individual computer or network. So we want to share what we have learned so far and offer solutions.

Apparently BellSouth and AT&T are moving their email servers and are experiencing many issues. This move has caused some email users to get errors, not be able to login or not be able to receive or send emails.

Here are some solutions we have found to be helpful:

Use Webmail. Open a browser - Google Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge, etc., - and go to www.yahoo.com, click on Mail in the upper, right corner. Follow directions to type in your username and password to make sure you are able to access your account. If not, your username or password is incorrect. If you don’t remember your password or it does not work, reset it. If all info is correct, you should be able to see and access your mail.

If this doesn’t work…

Call AT&T. This is the key to restoring full email function. Call and ask to have your email password reset. Do not let them simply point you to the email reset online. They will give you a temporary password that you will use to create a permanent password that meets security requirements.

Call AT&T at 855-920-0146. Be patient. This is a direct line to a human being, not an automated answering system! Many folks have had success calling this number.

  • Tech support will ask for a ZIP code associated with your account.

  • If they ask you for your security questions and you do not know them, tell Tech Support they don’t work.

  • They can generate a temporary passcode and you will enter it on the AT&T website. Follow prompts to reset your password.

  • Update your security questions - Go to Profile - under Sign-in info, click Change your security questions. Write down the answers.

  • If the Tech cannot help you, hang up and call back to get a different person.

You’ll need to work with the folks at AT&T/Bellsouth to get your resolved since it’s their servers that are causing the issue.
